| Suffering,
Acceptance &
A Brighter Tomorrow

There
are times when you have no choice but to suffer graciously. Everything
you have tried to "fix" the pain has not worked. So let's
be practical and talk about "diminishing" the agony by
accepting it and having faith that
there will be a brighter tomorrow.
Swim around in the pool of misery that is your fate. At the same
time, use your mind to think positive thoughts about how your life
is going to be when all of this is over. Here is a poem I wrote
to soothe myself when I am in pain.

Life
may take a downward spiral,
And overwhelm us for awhile.
Pain may seem a way of life;
Endless moments filled with strife.
Gloom may settle in our soul,
Splitting that which once was whole.
And yet despite this painful rift,
There still exists a timeless gift.
The saving grace when all is gray,
The promise of a brand new day.
I
also go to the book of Alcoholics Anonymous and read the
following passage over and over again.
[A]cceptance is the
answer to all my problems today. When I am disturbed, it is because
I find some person, place, thing, or situation—some fact of
my life—unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until
I accept that person, place, thing, or situation as being exactly
the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely
nothing happens in God’s world by mistake.
